The Magic of Coffee

My morning cuppa is one of the main reasons why I love my morning routine. Waking up to the fresh smell of coffee wafting through my apartment makes me want to pause, sit back and cherish this quiet morning time. My thoughts and I get to have a date with a coffee. During this time I breathe deeply, write three things I am grateful for and set my intention for the day. This “me time” with my cuppa grounds me and I feel energised and more prepared for a day ahead, ready to face any obstacles with calm.

At work, among my colleagues, I have a reputation of being a wellness junky and when I'm seen drinking my morning coffee I often get a few raised eyebrows. Coffee, like many other healthy foods, has been given a ‘bad rap’; thus, I am often faced with comments like “I thought coffee is bad for your health,” or “Haven’t you heard of the dangers of caffeine?” or “You drink coffee?!”

Let’s set the record straight once and for all…. one cup of good quality coffee isn’t a bad thing, but if you’re struggling with anxiety or your hormones are out of whack, then instead of coffee, I would recommend rooibos tea, espresso.

Let’s cut to the chase…

Hot drink not only makes your morning routine more mindful but also improve happiness.

A cup of coffee or warm tea triggers the release of dopamine, a feel-good hormone.

Coffee contains antioxidants

Coffee is the World’s biggest source of polyphenol antioxidants, which means it has powerful anti-aging effects. In fact, coffee beans contain more antioxidants than most fruits and vegetables.

I AM OFTEN ASKED

WHEN, HOW MUCH AND WHAT COFFE TO DRINK

Rule number one.

Don’t drink your coffee as soon as you wake up, as your cortisol levels (stress hormone levels) are highest around this time, so your body doesn’t need this extra stimulation to wake itself up. Wait at least an hour to get that first sip of coffee in the morning.

Rule number two.

When shopping for your coffee, only buy organic coffee, as otherwise you will be injecting high levels of pesticides with each sip of your coffee.

Rule number three.

Make sure your coffee is mycotoxin-free. I use limitless brand

Rule number four.

Limit your coffee consumption to one or two cups a day.

Rule number five.

Don’t drink decaf. Most brands for their decaf version use the lowest quality beans with high amount of toxins (caused by mold growth and other chemicals).

Don’t forget to upgrade your morning with this coffee...
