What is Coaching Psychology?

What kind of questions come up in my coaching psychology sessions?

I focus on helping a person explore his or her own sense of ‘being in the world’ at this particularly difficult moment of their life through a set of questions:

  • What is the purpose of your life?

  • What gives your life meaning?

  • What does that mean for you to have freedom of choice?

Basic Assumptions I have as a Coaching Psychologist:

People have agency over their life. Personal agency refers to the choices we make in life, the paths we go down and their consequences.

People are basically good, and have an innate need to make themselves and the world better.

People are motivated to self-actualize through psychological growth, fulfillment and satisfaction in life

The subjective, conscious experiences of the individual is the most important.

I had sessions with Izabela bi-weekly since November 2019. Izabela is great for discovering biases and hidden limitations I put on myself, like limiting beliefs, unnecessary pessimism. Also, I have benefited a lot from her kind and structured way of establishing a coaching relationship. While I have time to explore thoughts and feelings and feel relaxed to voice insecurities, our coaching process has always supported me to go beyond that and to make decisions, decide on strategies and reflect on myself in a constructive and honest way. I had sessions with Izabela for two months and our sessions were scheduled every two weeks from September through to November 2019. I also participated in her meditation group in March 2020 to help me better manage my emotions during the Covid-19 situation. Throughout the coaching process, Izabela showed me that she is very good at establishing non-judgemental space and has a natural way of asking insightful questions that evoked more self-reflection on my part. With her guidance, I gained more clarity about myself and became more aware of my thoughts and how these were impacting me.
